For those of you who have to commute into the city for work, you know that it can get a bit stressful. Between the early mornings, traffic, and parking, it is certainly no walk in the park. Here at SPOT, we know we’re helping people #ParkEasier, but here are 9 tips that will make your commute a bit better.
Make a playlist: A killer playlist that never fails to put you in a good mood is the best way to make travelling more enjoyable Whether it’s today’s top hits to get you pumped and ready for the day, or classical music to relax your mind, a custom playlist will make your commute fly by!
Read a Book: Or should I say “listen” to a book! Really want to read that new best seller, but just can’t find the time? Download the audiobook and listen during your commute! It’s relaxing and will transport you somewhere far more interesting. One moment you could be driving down I-95, the next you could be storming a medieval castle atop your loyal steed.
Take a Different Route: When you’re caught driving the same way to and from work everyday it can get a bit monotonous. Often you’ll arrive at work, not remembering the drive at all. This happens because your brain is so used to the drive that it begins to process it less and less (There’s scientific proof that this is true!) Even your brain is bored with your commute, spice it up and try a new route!
Bring a buddy: Change up your commute by carpooling with a friend or coworker. Not only does this help the environment, it can help the time fly by and save you major $$ if you split gas along the way! After driving to work our brains are not always fully awake, but by having another person to talk to you can exercise your brain and feel more ready for the day ahead!
Clean it up: No one wants to drive to work surrounded by half empty Starbucks cups and crumpled Dunks wrappers. Keeping your car clean will help you feel organized and in control of your day, something that’s often rare at work! With a clean car, you could be starting your day with a “can do” attitude, rather than walking into work with a used tissue stuck to your pants.
Pick up Joe: A cup o’joe that is! Whether you’re a coffee drinker or a tea drinker, be sure to grab a drink for the ride. With a little caffeine boost you’ll be a safer driver and hit the ground running at work. Maybe on Fridays treat yourself to that double mocha, caramel swirl coffee you’ve been dreaming about, anything to brighten up your drive!
Unplug: For a better and safer commute don’t get distracted by your phone or any other technology you may have with you! By unplugging you are more aware of your surroundings, and are less apt to bump the guy in front of you while sending the, “almost there,” text. In the long run, you’ll save yourself time, money, and data.
Pack a Snack: Everyone is motivated and excited about different things, for me food never fails! If you find yourself running late for work grab a protein bar, or even make a quick smoothie! Anything that is easy to grab and eat on the go! Plus, it’ll give you something to munch on if traffic has you at a stand still.
Catch some zzz’s: NOT during your commute of course. Getting a good night’s sleep the night before can significantly improve your drive. You’ll feel more awake, attentive, and less grumpy with a solid eight hours under your belt!
